Reading Wrap Up 2012

The Stats for 2012:

Books Read: 291
Total Pages (using Goodreads' page count for digital books): 92404
Longest Book: State by State: A Panoramic Portrait of America edited by Matt Weiland
Five Star Books of 2012:
The Sleeping Beauty by Mercedes Lackey
Let's Pretend This Never Happened by Jenny Lawson
Devine Intervention by Martha Brockenbrough
The Woman Who Died A Lot by Jasper Fforde
The Lady Most Willing by Julia Quinn, Eloisa James and Connie Brockway
The Long Earth by Terry Pratchett and Stephen Baxter

The most surprising Five Star book for me was Devine Intervention. It was a YA novel, about a guardian angel. Stupid premise right? But the book was AMAZING! It was emotional, but funny. Dramatic, but not over done. Such a good read. It surprised me, like Ready Player One did last year.

I will admit that The Lady Most Willing and The Long Earth probably aren't super strong Five Star books, but are more sentimental, judged more softly because the authors' are some of my long time favorites.

Worst books of the year: 50 Shades of (excuse me while I vomit), Ditched: A Love Story, Amanda's Wedding, The Smart One and the Pretty One, Scored

Things I Learned This Year: My library stocks an excessive amount of Christian Chick Lit. I have realized that I need to check the front of the book and see if there are any quotes attributed to the Bible on the copywrite page. If so, that book is NOT for ME, and I leave it on the shelf. Also, Amish romance novels seem to be super popular, and I just do not understand this.

This year I almost stopped reading traditional romance novels (unless they were by perennial favorites like Eloisa James and Julia Quinn). I started reading a lot more sci-fi/fantasy novels. I like YA more, in this respect, because I don't always want to devote tons of time to extensive world building. I am more than willing to suspend disbelief on a backstory, if the rest of the story is worth is.

Surprising Books Worth Reading:
The Highest Frontier
The Mothership
The True Meaning of Smekday

Reading Goals/Challenges for 2013-
1. Read 250+ books
2. Read 100,000 pages (I came up just about 8000 pages short this year)
3. Read a book set in every state

Friend me on Goodreads! I love seeing what other people read.
